Oak Lawn is the Premier Chicago Suburb

Incorporated in 1909, the village of Oak Lawn, Illinois has proven to be a premier community for families in Chicagoland. Nestled in the southwestern edge of Chicago, it is one of Cook County’s largest local governments.

The village’s area is 8.59 square miles and is only 15 miles from downtown Chicago. Oak Lawn borders Chicago in two areas, but is mostly bordered by other suburbs. At the time of the 2010 census, 56,690 Illinois residents called Oak Lawn home. Since the last census this number has grown, influenced by the dedication of village leaders to renovation and improvement.

Oak Lawn’s safety, amenities and aesthetics attract many new residents annually. A modernized Metra station offers two lines, the Norfolk and the Western, into Chicago’s downtown. These lines cater to over 500 daily commuters. The commute is 38 minutes. Not only does the reliable rail system appeal to residents, the village’s close proximity to major expressways is also a draw.

The village boasts a diverse collection of businesses and eateries in its downtown area. Residents and visitors enjoy manicured store-fronts and immaculate residential neighborhoods in Oak Lawn.

Beginning in 2002, Oak Lawn’s downtown was the focus of major redevelopment. The project included the demolition of several properties to make room for high-end condos with retail space on their lower levels.

Families appreciate village leaders’ commitment to maintaining a sense of community and family-friendliness in Oak Lawn. Over 300 acres of the suburb are utilized for its 22 parks and recreational facilities.

The future is optimistic in the ever-evolving Oak Lawn. Taking steps to keep Oak Lawn on the forefront of innovation, village leaders promise residents and visitors wonderful experiences in beautiful Oak Lawn.
