Oak Lawn Illinois Things to Do

Having Fun in Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn, Illinois is a pleasant suburb of Chicago located southwest of the city. It prides itself on its expansive park system, which covers an impressive 300 acres of the town. Oak Lawn is dotted with playgrounds, baseball fields, walking paths, basketball courts and other recreational areas. Each neighborhood in Oak Lawn has its own area, with 22 parks in total.

The town is also home to the Stony Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole course designed by Carl Getz opened in 1982. The facility includes a pro shop, PGA instruction, a 44-station driving range and bocce courts, as well as a miniature golf course and banquet facilities.

The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn is a great family outing for a day of fun and learning. Instead of the usual “look but don’t touch” rule of most museums, the Children’s Museum encourages a hands on approach in their philosophy. Children are allowed to be creative and exploratory, and parents are encouraged to act as their teachers in the process.

The Wolfe Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to escape for a quiet walk or bike ride. You can admire the different flora while enjoying the chorus of the various birds trying to outdo one another. As a bonus for the youngsters with you – there are three playgrounds situated along the route.

One of the greatest benefits of living or staying in a charming suburb like Oak Lawn is its quiet, green splendor coupled with its proximity to the big city. It’s just a short ride to Chicago and all the activities it has to offer, and you can enjoy the restaurants, bar scene, sporting events and concerts, or whatever strikes your fancy.
